Coming soon for iPhone and iPad

The radar gun that's already in your pocket.

Heater Meter measures pitch speed with your iPhone's slow-motion camera, then shows you the pitch's flight, frame by frame. No radar gun. No sensors. No guessing.

10 free readings. Then $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year.

Heater Meter after a throw: 36.5 mph, plus or minus 1.6, with the ball's path drawn in yellow over the video
How it works

Three steps, a few seconds.

No setup, no calibration sticks, nothing to attach to the ball.

Set your phone down

Prop your iPhone on a fence, tripod or bucket, behind the backstop or along a baseline. It needs to stay still while you record.

Record the pitch

Tap Record, throw, tap Stop. Heater Meter films at 240 frames a second, fast enough to catch the ball dozens of times in flight.

Get the speed

Seconds later you see the speed, how sure the app is of it, and the ball's path drawn over your own video.

See it

Real pitches, real readings.

Straight from the app: the speed, the ball's path over your own video, your recent recordings, and the plans.

Features

Built for the backstop, not the lab.

Made for youth baseball parents and coaches who want a real number without buying a radar gun.

Works from behind the backstop

Most video apps need you side-on. Heater Meter can also read a pitch coming toward you, by measuring how the ball drops under gravity.

See the flight

The pitch's path is drawn over your footage. Scrub along it and a zoom window shows the ball in every frame, so you can check what was measured.

Honest numbers

Every reading shows its ± margin. When the video can't support a clean number, the app tells you, instead of guessing.

No extra gear

No radar gun, no sensor in the ball, no gadget to charge. Just the iPhone you already carry to the field.

Your last 10 recordings

Every recording is kept with its reading, so you can look back over a session and compare pitches.

Private by design

Video is analysed on your phone. Nothing is uploaded, and there's no account to create.

FAQ

Good questions.

How accurate is it?

Every reading comes with its own ± margin, so you can see how much to trust it. A steady phone, good daylight and a clear view of the ball give the tightest readings.

Where should I stand?

Behind the backstop, or off to one side along a baseline. Keep the whole flight, from the pitcher's hand to the catcher's mitt, in the picture.

Which devices does it work on?

Any iPhone running iOS 17 or later, using the camera's 240 fps slow-motion mode, which every one of those iPhones has. It also runs on iPads with iPadOS 17 or later, filming at 120 fps.

Do I need to measure anything?

No. There's no mound distance to enter and nothing to measure. Heater Meter works out how far away the ball is from the ball itself, so it works on any field, in the backyard, or at the beach.

Does it need an internet connection?

No. Everything runs on the phone. You only need a connection to subscribe.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. Heater Meter is for iPhone and iPad only for now.
